Real capital for the organizations doing the work of healthcare — at no cost to you.
If your organization provides healthcare services directly to patients, or works to address the social and environmental factors that shape patient health, you may qualify for a free allocation of NMD™ units through the Bolton-Strid Foundation — funding you can put toward the equipment, technology, and infrastructure upgrades your organization actually needs, with no debt, no equity given up, and no cost to apply.
Why This Exists
Across the country, the organizations doing the hands-on work of patient care — and the organizations working further upstream to keep people healthy in the first place — are being asked to do more with less. Reimbursement doesn’t keep pace with the cost of new equipment, cybersecurity upgrades, or basic infrastructure. Traditional financing means taking on debt against margins that are often razor-thin to begin with.
The Bolton-Strid Foundation was built to close that gap differently: by allocating NMD™ units — valued according to a transparent, independently calculated measure of U.S. physician economic output — directly to qualifying organizations, free of charge, sized to the specific need you document.
Who Qualifies
We work with legitimately registered, licensed businesses and organizations that provide healthcare services directly to patients, or that address the social determinants of health that shape patient outcomes. This includes, among others:
- Physician practices and doctors’ offices
- Hospitals and health systems
- Public health departments
- Blood banks and donation centers
- Pharmacy and prescription delivery services
- Non-emergency medical transportation providers
- Patient advocacy organizations
- Organizations addressing social determinants of health — such as food security, housing stability, and access to care
- Other organizations delivering direct patient care or healthcare-adjacent support services
If your organization is properly licensed or registered to operate, and your work directly serves patients or addresses the conditions that shape their health, you likely qualify. If you’re not sure whether your organization fits, apply anyway — our accreditation review will let you know.
Don’t see your field listed? Healthcare and the factors that drive health outcomes take many forms, and this list isn’t exhaustive. If you believe your organization’s work qualifies, email us at [partnerships@bolton-strid.org] and tell us about what you do — we review every inquiry.
How It Works
1. Apply and get verified. Submit your organization’s information so we can confirm you’re a legitimately operating healthcare or healthcare-adjacent business.
2. Tell us what you need. Identify a specific capital or quality-improvement need — new equipment, a technology upgrade, infrastructure, or similar — and submit documentation supporting it.
3. Receive your allocation. Once your need is verified, your organization receives an allocation of NMD™ units sized to that specific need — not a fixed, one-size-fits-all amount.
4. Put it to work. Use your allocation with participating vendors and suppliers across our network to acquire the equipment, technology, or services you identified — the same way you’d use any other form of purchasing power.
What This Is — and Isn’t
To be clear about what you’re signing up for: this is a free allocation, not a loan, not an investment, and not a purchase. Your organization doesn’t pay anything to participate, doesn’t take on debt, and doesn’t give up any ownership or equity. In exchange, we simply ask that the allocation go toward the specific, documented need you identified.
Because allocations are treated as income for tax purposes, we encourage you to work with your own tax advisor — particularly around timing your spending to take advantage of available depreciation benefits, which can offset much or all of the tax impact of your allocation.
Getting Started
There’s no cost to apply, and no obligation until you accept an allocation. If your organization is doing the work of caring for patients — or the work of addressing what makes patients healthy in the first place — we want to help make sure funding isn’t the thing standing in your way.
